What are psychiatric and medical support services?
Psychiatric services support individuals through a holistic model of health, where mental and physical health are collectively viewed rather than separately considered. It could be beneficial for assessment of experience or symptoms, level of function or questions about what treatments may be most beneficial. You can access both psychiatric while you are utilizing other services.
Insight Counseling has clinician Brittany Hamm, a nurse practitioner certified in psychiatric-mental health and family practice, who provides psychiatric services. She collaborates with other Insight clinicians whenever an individual sees others to provide collaborative treatment planning.
Some examples of what could be addressed through psychiatric services:
Medication management: discussing treatment with medications to support daily function, reduce severity of mental health symptom.
Reducing medical treatment: working to reduce or taper medications or other medical intervention when no longer necessary.
Lifestyle management: discussion and education about managing health through lifestyle changes in nutrition, physical activity, sleep regulation, etc.
Support for chronic conditions: education about medical conditions, such as diabetes or high blood pressure, and how this can impact mental health symptoms, function.

Dr. Brittany Hamm, DNP, APRN, CNP, FNP-BC, PMHNP-BC
Dr. Brittany Hamm is a Certified Nurse Practitioner (CNP) licensed in the states of Minnesota and Wisconsin. Board certified in the areas of primary care and psychiatric-mental health care, she works with individuals across the lifespan. Brittany’s area of expertise is supporting clients through a holistic model, where physical health, lifestyle behaviors and mental health concerns are considered collectively. She places great emphasis on listening to a client’s unique experience to promote shared decision making and develop treatment plans together.
Brittany received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Northwestern College in Orange City, IA, and worked as an RN for many years in the community health setting prior to furthering her education. She earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, IA, where she earned dual certification as Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).
Outside of her practice, she spends time with her family, playing hard and exploring the great outdoors whenever possible.
